My Vote Goes to Kamala Harris – washingtonredwoodpress.com

Retired General Stanley McChrystal Endorses Kamala Harris, Citing Character Over Controversy

In a surprising twist in the political landscape, retired General Stanley McChrystal announced on Sunday that he is casting his vote for Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential election. During an interview on CBS News’s “Face the Nation,” McChrystal emphasized the importance of character in leadership, sidestepping direct questions about former President Donald Trump’s suitability for office.

McChrystal, who gained national prominence for his leadership in the U.S. military, articulated his belief that true character is revealed under pressure. “It is a combination of their deep-seated beliefs, the things, their core values, and the discipline they have to execute those, to live up to them,” he explained. He pointed to Harris’s extensive background as a prosecutor, attorney general, and senator as evidence of her character, suggesting that her experiences have equipped her with the qualities necessary for the presidency.

In an op-ed published in The New York Times just days prior, McChrystal praised Harris’s character while notably avoiding any mention of her political rival, Trump. This endorsement aligns with a growing trend among former military officials, as McChrystal is one of ten retired top military leaders who have publicly supported Harris over Trump.

When pressed by host Robert Costa about Trump’s fitness for office, McChrystal skillfully dodged the question. “I believe that Vice President Harris is fit to lead the country in the presidency. I think she’s got the character,” he reiterated, emphasizing his focus on Harris rather than engaging in a critique of Trump.

Costa continued to challenge McChrystal, asking directly if he believes Trump is fit for office. McChrystal responded with a pointed remark, “OK, Bob, let’s be honest. Why would a retired military officer come on to endorse his opponent?” This exchange highlighted McChrystal’s commitment to his principles over partisan politics.

The retired general has not shied away from criticizing Trump in the past. In a 2018 interview, he stated he would decline any offer to join the Trump administration, citing concerns about Trump’s honesty and moral character. Trump, in turn, has not held back in his criticism of McChrystal, labeling him as “fired like a dog” and questioning his credibility.

As the election approaches, the endorsement from McChrystal, along with support from hundreds of other national security officials, underscores a significant shift among military leaders who are rallying behind Harris. This trend raises questions about the broader implications for the upcoming election and the values that voters prioritize in their leaders.

In a political climate often dominated by division and controversy, McChrystal’s endorsement serves as a reminder of the importance of character in leadership. As voters prepare to head to the polls, the choice between candidates will not only reflect their political preferences but also their values and beliefs about what constitutes effective leadership in America.
