Ellen DeGeneres’ New Life in the British Countryside After Leaving the U.S. Post-Trump Victory – washingtonredwoodpress.com

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi Embrace New Life in the English Countryside

In a surprising twist for fans of Ellen DeGeneres, the beloved talk show host and her wife, actress Portia de Rossi, have traded the sunny shores of Montecito, California, for the picturesque landscapes of the British countryside. The couple made the move in November 2024, shortly after Donald Trump’s election victory left them feeling “very disillusioned.” Sources close to the couple revealed that they had already secured a stunning multimillion-pound farmhouse in the Cotswolds before the election, but the political climate prompted them to make a swift exit from the U.S.

Ellen, who had been a vocal supporter of former Vice President Kamala Harris, expressed her disappointment on social media after the election results were announced. In an Instagram post from August 2024, she declared her excitement for Harris’s potential presidency, stating, “There’s nothing more powerful than a woman whose time has come.” However, the couple’s decision to relocate was not officially linked to the election, as neither Ellen nor Portia have publicly commented on their reasons for leaving California.

The Cotswolds, known for its rolling hills and charming villages, is about two hours from London and boasts a host of celebrity neighbors, including David and Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss, and even King Charles and Queen Camilla, who have their estate nearby. Ellen and Portia’s new home is a modern luxury farmhouse complete with a swimming pool and a helicopter pad, making it a perfect retreat for the couple.

Since their move, the pair has been spotted enjoying their new surroundings, including a recent outing at The Farmer’s Dog pub, owned by English TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson. A lively Instagram post from the pub showcased Ellen and Portia among friends, sharing laughs and drinks while enjoying live music. Fans were quick to notice Ellen’s darker hair in the video, a departure from her iconic blonde locks.

Ellen’s transition to life in England comes on the heels of her departure from “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” which ended in May 2022 after 19 seasons. The show faced scrutiny following allegations of a toxic workplace environment, but Ellen has maintained that the controversy did not influence her decision to end the show. In a Netflix special titled “For Your Approval,” released in September 2024, she humorously addressed the backlash, joking, “I got kicked out of show business. Yeah, ’cause I’m mean.”

Despite the challenges of her past, Ellen seems to be thriving in her new environment. In a recent Instagram post celebrating her 20th anniversary with Portia, she reassured fans that their new farmhouse had not been affected by flooding from Storm Bert, adding a light-hearted touch with hashtags like #NotFlooded and #WeNamedHimSteve.

As Ellen and Portia settle into their new life in the Cotswolds, it’s clear that they are embracing this fresh chapter with open arms. Whether they’re enjoying a night out at the pub or sharing glimpses of their idyllic countryside home, the couple appears to be finding joy in their new surroundings, leaving behind the hustle and bustle of Hollywood for a more tranquil lifestyle.
